Our next field trip will be July 11th at Florida Caverns State Park and the temperature in the caverns will be delightfully cool. We hope you will join us there and at our other exciting field trips. We are also going to revive the monthly Science Salon starting in August – details coming soon! ~Martin Bremer, Ph.D.

July 11th at Florida Caverns State Park
If you haven’t been to the Florida Caverns lately, or ever, this is your chance. Cool air, the sound of dripping water, a visual array of mystifying stalactites, stalagmites, flowstones and draperies – greets visitors exploring the otherworldly depths of Florida Caverns. Our tour will be led by a Florida Park Ranger who can help us understand how this underground world was formed and continues to evolve. There is a $20 fee/person for the private tour. We have plenty of space so please bring friends and family! Register here for free on Eventbrite!
July 19 FSU Coastal and Marine Laboratory
FSUCML is a jewel on the nearby coast at St. Teresa Beach. They conduct research to optimize marine management and conservation by studying sea creatures in their habitats. The public is invited to explore the coast at an “Evening at the Edge of the Sea” on Saturday July 19th. While this is not a TSS event, we encourage you to go! Reserve a spot HERE!
August 21st Science Salon Reboot!
Join us for the kick-off of a new Science Salon at the Blue Tavern. For those who reminisce for the old Waterworks Science Salon, we got you. Our first event will be August 21st at 7PM at the Blue Tavern and will be hosted by TSS President, Martin Bremer. Come hear him present, “JAWS – Who’s the real monster?” Sharks are largely misunderstood. Join us in a discussion about the necessary role of sharks in the ecosystem and cultural perceptions of sharks. Let’s celebrate sharks and the 50th anniversary of JAWS together!
Making Awesome: THE Tallahassee Makerspace!
What is a makerspace? It is a place that offers the know-how and access to tools and equipment to a creative community. Making Awesome is a nonprofit organization made up of a diverse group of makers, dreamers, entrepreneurs, students, tinkerers, hobbyists, enthusiasts, and teachers. The space is available to members 24/7. Come tour their facility and see what they offer the Tallahassee community. August date and time TBD. 2818 Industrial Plaza Dr STE H, Tallahassee.
Pictures from the Master Craftsman Studio Tour
On June 20th, fifteen folks gathered at the FSU Master Craftsman Studio (MCS) at the round-about in front of the “Declaration” art piece. Phil Gleason, studio manager, lead us on a tour of the facilities. We had TSS members and a few new faces from Meet-up.
