This opportunity will blow your mind! Members of TSS are invited to a full day of exploration of sea life on the water for a half-day followed by an afternoon in the lab to further investigate the specimens collected on the boat. As many of you know, FSUCML is a jewel on the nearby coast at St. Teresa Beach. They conduct research to optimize marine management and conservation by studying sea creatures in their habitats. Our group will meet at the Publix in Crawfordville and be transported to the Marine Lab via an FSU van. Reserve a spot on Eventbrite; additional information  will be provided. While this is a “free” event, you are welcome to make a donation to TSS. Hosted by OSTA.

A little bit about Julie: She leads the 126-year old organization’s 90 Florida researchers, resource managers, educators and policy experts to drive durable solutions for the conservation issues facing our state. In 2015, she was recognized with National Audubon Society’s highest staff honor, the Charles Callison Award, for leadership in the response to the Deepwater Horizon Disaster, has been named three times by the Miami Herald/El Nuevo Herald as one of their top 50 Florida Influencers, and was named by Flamingo Magazine in 2026 as one of ten “Florida Culturekeepers.” She previously worked as a biologist for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission where she created the Great Florida Birding Trail.

Interns from Conservation Pathways came and spoke about their experience with research projects like indigo snake reintroduction, Apalachicola River slough restoration, and more while earning DIS credit at FSU.  The presentation showed CP inspires future leaders through mentorship, research, and hands-on experiences.

The last Horizons of 2026 featured Dr. Massimo Marengo, FSU Physics. WOW! What a presentation! He guided us through the our galaxy, the Milky Way, using the unique features of the Fogg Planetarium that allowed him to zoom in on specific nebulae to show us developing stars.  He tied this in with an explanation of the formation of the elements represented on the Periodic table, starting with hydrogen and helium. TSS recently applied for a grant from Community Foundation of North Florida for $1500 to support our initiatives with Capital Regional Science and Engineering Fair (CRSEF). The application centered on a 59 second video that applicants create to explain their efforts in supporting communities of low to medium incomes. Please see our TSS video HERE.
